Chris Aitken was born in Wick and grew up in Keiss. After leaving school he worked in a call centre before going to university, where he gained a first-class honours degree in computing science. He then had a spell working in non-destructive testing before realising that his future lay in teaching. Chris is now computing science teacher at Wick High School where he inspires pupils to explore the possibilities of technology and to enjoy what they do. I try to make things as fun as possible,” he says.
In this interview, coinciding with the 2018 Caithness International Science Festival, Chris talks about his pupils successes on the national stage and beyond. He recalls how the prize for winning one competition was a trip to Microsoft HQ in Seattle. He also highlights pupils achievements in the UK-wide Apps for Good programme and how they have explored the commercial potential of the apps they have designed.
