Canisbay School: the memories are alive

Recorded 1 year ago

About this recording

Sean MacGregor shares some of his memories of attending Canisbay Primary School from 2002 – 2009.

In his first year at school he says, “I remember feeling so welcomed by Mrs Mowat”

Sean recalls how he and his classmates sat on the red carpet and flew to Letterland to discover the letters of the alphabet.

He particularly remembers the school trip to Eden Court Theatre, Inverness to see the pantomime, Cinderella.  Sean describes his delight when he was chosen by one of the ‘ugly sisters’ to go on stage.

“I was amazed being up there, seeing the audience, the lights, seeing the costumes.’

When he returned home, he told his mum, “I want to be an actor.”

Participation in the Caithness Music Festival and the annual Christmas Treats further influenced his career choice to study drama.

He recalls giving his dad a thumbs up when he went on stage for his first Nativity play but he became extremely embarrassed when everyone laughed at the cute gesture, however he recalls being comforted by Mrs Mowat.

In Mrs Brown’s class he remembers the Christmas Treat when he was dressed as a bear emerging from Santa’s sack full of toys.

“Christmas Treats were such a joy to be part of.”

Sean has fond memories of everyone looking out for each other.

He describes the Canisbay School open day as a nostalgic day full of memories.

“The memories are alive.”
