Memories of Canisbay School

Recorded 1 year ago

About this recording

The ‘new’ Canisbay Primary School opened in September 1974 and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

At an open day on 14th June 2025 many former pupils shared memories of their time at Canisbay School.  Many talked about performing at the annual Christmas Treats

The annual Christmas Treat was a highlight of the school year. Headteacher, Elsie Cowe started the custom whereby each primary 1 pupil introduced themselves to the audience by reciting a verse about themselves and their family.

In this recording Kate Cowe nee Green recites her Primary 1 verse from 1974, the year the school opened.

Her daughter, Emma Cowe recites her Primary 1 verse from 1997.

Emma also shares a memory of the day the school was damaged by a bolt of lightning.
