Lockdown Reflections - Heritage Matters

Recorded 6 years ago

About this recording

As Chairperson of The Wick Society, Ian Leith reflects upon the impact lockdown has had upon each section of the Wick Society. As the museum is currently closed, The Wick Society directors have been meeting virtually to plan ways in which they can use technology to promote the heritage collection.

The Johnston Photographic Collection is accessible online and Ian encourages people to browse the 43,000 images.

Face to face oral history interviews are no longer an option for Wick Voices volunteers but Ian explains how they have found alternative ways of using technology, through the use of existing stories to create videos, experimenting with remote recording and through encouraging people to make their own recordings.

He also explains that although the Isabella Fortuna remains in the old lifeboat shed, plans are being made to carry out some work on the Diligent while continuing to observe social distancing rules.

Ian also reflects upon some of the skills and leisure activities he has built upon during the Covid-19 lockdown.
