Ian Leith talks about the pioneering Caithness folk who, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, travelled to the other side of the world to settle in Patagonia. Their story is told in full in Ian’s book Caithness to Patagonia: Distant Lands and Close Relatives, published in 2016 by Whittles Publishing.
In this interview Ian highlights the influential role of John Hamilton in blazing a trail from the north of Scotland to the southern extremity of South America, mentions some of the other pioneers who followed in Hamilton's footsteps, and explains why he is confident that the long-established links between Caithness and Patagonia will endure for generations to come.
