Operation Snowdrop

Recorded 6 years ago

About this recording

"Operation Snowdrop” was the name given to the military operation to deliver food and vital medical supplies to snowbound districts in the North of Scotland, during a significant snowstorm in January 1955. This was a memorable event for many Wick Voices contributors.

In addition to listening to a compilation of Wick Voices stories relating to this significant event, you can view photographs of snow scenes from the Johnston Photographic Collection and photographs of the 1955 snowstorm, taken by Ian McDonald.

Wick Voices is grateful to Gordon Gunn for allowing the "Waterlines” track to be used throughout this video. The track is from The Musical Map of Caithness by Gordon Gunn and Friends.
