Having spent the first three years of his life on Stroma, William Bremner vividly recalls his childhood memories. He talks of crawling around the flagstone floor of his grandparents' house, accompanying his mother on her rounds of the island, carrying out her duties as district nurse and spending time at the harbour and in his fathers boat. He talks about the community spirit of the island and remembers the many visitors to their house, the Nurses Cottage, in the long summer holidays and at New Year, when the house was full of music.
When his family moved to the mainland he felt that, I had Stroma in my blood and I felt it had been unfairly taken from me”.
As a young adult, he welcomed the opportunity to return to the island to work.
His love of the island, the land, the sea and nature were nurtured on Stroma.
