About this recording

In helping out with the John O’Groats ferry, MV Pentland Venture, William Bremner not only skippers the vessel across the Pentland Firth to Orkney but conducts wildlife cruises during the summer months.

“It’s always my favourite day when I head over for Stroma and do a circumnavigation around the island, with the west going ebb stream”.

In this interview, William takes the listener on a tour around Stroma, talking about its history and geology as well as the wildlife of the island. He describes the coastline and the dangers of the Pentland Firth and he tells stories of pirates and shipwrecks.
