About this recording
John Manson was a member of the last family to leave Stroma in 1962. In this short recording he recalls the day the Queen Mother came to the island for a picnic.
He also remembers when some of Stroma’s old fishing boats were piled up and set on fire as a beacon to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
