About this recording

Sutherland Clyne describes a visit to the local barber and he recalls some incidents while living in Huddart Street. He goes on to mention his visit to a restaurant in Wellington, New Zealand, where he emigrated to with his parents. Sutherland Clyne was born in Lybster on November 27th 1906 and lived most of his life in Wick, where his parents were involved in the fishing industry. In 1996, by then living in Christchurch, New Zealand, he contributed a series of six articles to the John O'Groat Journal based on his childhood reminiscences. In these recordings, Harry Gray (born 1937) reads the stories published in 1996.
