Eric Farquhar talks about growing up in 'e Chapel – the Whitechapel area of Wick – and how the houses there were regarded as slums. There was only one bath in the whole of Alexandra Place and Macleay Terrace, he says. Eric's family thought they were "in heaven" when they were later awarded a council house with a bath in it.

The photograph is from the Johnston collection held by the Wick Society and shows flooding at Alexandra Place (in the Whitechapel area) in 1931.
Eric passed away in January 2023.
