The Whaligoe Steps
Recorded 9 years agoDavy Nicolson looks after the Whaligoe Steps. He lives close by and regularly acts as unofficial tour guide, telling visitors from all over the world about the history of this unique site and its special place in the history of the Caithness fishing industry. He maintains and repairs the steps and even cuts the grass down on the Bink, the flat area of ground just up from the shore. In this interview he mentions two others who have helped care for the steps over the years: Iain Sutherland and the late Etta Juhle. Davy has sold more than 7,000 copies of Iain's booklet, Whaligoe And Its Steps. Davy also mentions his encounters with one or two celebrity visitors to Whaligoe.
