The first game I played, I got kicked right in the mouth

About this recording

George Heppel shares a few reminiscences about playing football in the Rural League for Stirkoke, Staxigoe and Keiss.

He recalls how at that time there was little or no coaching and there were no changing rooms ("you got changed behind the dick"). Some football grounds doubled up as cattle parks.

He also remembers how at Staxigoe's pitch, right on the coast, the ball would be blown over the rocks on a windy day.

George rounds off this short recording by talking about gala-type cycling activities held at Noss on a Sunday in summer.
