David Carter
Born in 1964

Biography

An experienced diver with a keen interest in maritime history, David Carter has built up a website (www.hellsmouth.com) containing details of over 200 shipwrecks around Caithness waters.

In one of his interviews for Wick Voices, David outlines his theory that his house at Broadhaven, now named The Shebeen, was the inspiration for the Admiral Benbow inn which features in Robert Louis Stevenson’s adventure story Treasure Island.

He also talks about local shipwrecks and smuggling.

In another recording, David  looks back at his TV appearance on Channel 4’s Shed of the Year in 2016. The picture (taken in 2016 to coincide with the TV series) shows David with his son Connor, who was five at the time.
